Commitment To Excellence
Sharif Eye Center is one of the leading centers in the Middle East region helping people improve their vision and decrease their dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
CONTOURA®️ Vision is the latest technology available in laser vision correction.
CONTOURA®️ Vision using today’s most advanced mapping technology to map the unique contours of the surface of your cornea.
The scanning procedure samples up to 22,000 elevation points on each eye to create a unique vision profile for you, and only you.
CONTOURA®️ Vision, the measurements are only focused on the cornea (the clear window of the eye where most vision imperfections are located) and uses up to 22,000 topographical points to map the surface. This creates a highly detailed scan showing microscopic peaks and valleys that can be smoothed out by the advance laser system.
Sharif Eye Center provides expert eye care for all ages ranging from simple eye exams to diagnosing and treating the most complex eye diseases in a new state-of-the art facility.

What does UltraLASIK (Custom IntraLASIK) stand for?
The "Intra" component denotes the use of the revolutionary IntraLase® Femtosecond laser to perform the first step of the procedure. TheUltraLASIK(Custom UltraLASIK) portion is an abbreviation for Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis.
And what does all that mean?
Reshaping your cornea alters the focusing power of the eye, allowing you to become less dependent on glasses or contact lenses.UltraLASIK is the creation of a flap in the front of the cornea in order for the laser to reshape its interior. Traditional LASIK , as practiced in most other laser vision centers, uses a device called "microkeratome”, to create this flap. With over one hundred times the accuracy,UltraLASIKcreates the flap with micro-precision using highly sophisticated IntraLase® laser.
UltraLASIK we believe is the gold standard in vision correction surgery today.
UltraLASIKis a same day procedure – you usually enter and leave the laser centre within hours of the procedure. In experienced hands the procedure typically takes 6 minutes for each eye.
There are a number of important benefits to laser vision correction usingUltraLASIK:
Safety As a blade free procedure, it eliminates the risk of major blade related complications.
Use of disposable instruments for each eye significantly reduces the already rare risk of infection.
Better Outcome - Demonstrated worldwide and at Sharif Eye Center, UltraLASIK recipients consistently obtain better levels of vision beyond 6/6 or 20/20
Wide Range of Candidates - Substantially higher level of accuracy allows a larger number of patients previously unsuitable for traditional LASIK surgery because of thin corneas or high prescriptions.
Reduced Risk of Dry Eyes
Lower Enhancement Rates
Rapid Restoration of Vision (within hours of surgery)
Both Eyes Can Be Treated the Same Day
Wider Range of Correctable Prescriptions +5.00 to -15.00 Diopters
Treatment of Astigmatism up to 6 Diopters
How does UltraLASIKwork?
The cornea, a small area of transparent tissue at the front of the eye, provides two thirds of the eye’s focusing power. Altering its shape changes the power of the eye.UltraLASIK flattens the cornea to correct shortsightedness (Myopia) or steepness the cornea for farsightedness (Hyperopia). The reshaping process can also be used to correct astigmatism at the same time.
The surgeon creates an ultra thin corneal flap in the front of the cornea using the Femtosecond laser. Another laser is used to reshape the cornea under the flap. The flap is then replaced and adheres without the need for stitches. With the flap in place, the eye recovers quickly and vision is rapidly restored with minimal discomfort.
Am I a candidate?
Probably YES, if you:
Are over 18 years old and have had a stable prescription for 1 year
Have healthy eyes with no diseases (e.g. cataract)
Are within the range of correction:
UltraLASIKhas been shown to be effective for a wide range of myopia up to –15 diopters in selected cases. The level of treatment is highly dependent on your corneal thickness and pupil size in dim light.
UltraLASIKhas also been shown to be effective for farsightedness correcting up to +5 diopters. Treatment beyond this has been performed; whilst effective, is not as predictable.
Levels of astigmatism up to 6 diopters can be treated safely and effectively. At Sharif Eye Center we have expertise in treating higher levels than this and have developed novel methods. Before recommending UltraLASIK, a consultant surgeon will need to perform a thorough ophthalmic examination including a number of tests to ensure that your eyes are healthy and that you are a candidate for treatment.
Your Ultra LASIK Procedure
Before Your ProcedureWe recommend that you bring someone with you on the day of surgery and advise you to wear something comfortable as there is no need to change your clothes. You will be given a sedative to help you relax. Anesthetic eye drops will be placed in your eyes.
Prior to the procedure to each eye, the laser is calibrated and new disposable instruments are prepared. Topical anesthetic drops are used to numb your eye and after the area around the eye is cleaned and prepared, an eyelid holder is used to prevent you from blinking
The Femtosecond laser creates thousands of tiny bubbles to create the flap at a specified depth in the cornea for each eye.
The patient is then moved to the WAVELIGHT 400HZ Excimer Laser. The flap is then carefully lifted and the laser is used to reshape the inner cornea according to your individual prescription or wave front. You will be asked to gaze at a flashing red light during the procedure. When the treatment is completed, the flap will be replaced and allowed to dry.
You will be given protective eyewear (such as dark glasses) to prevent you from inadvertently rubbing your eyes. You will then be seated in a waiting room, where your operated eyes will be examined before you leave the center.
Your Follow-up Care
You will be seen for follow-up consultation soon after surgery and periodically thereafter. Your vision will be evaluated and your cornea re-measured using the same instruments as before. The duration of these visits is much shorter.
Femtosecond Machine Laser vision correction using UltraLaski is considered a safer approach and procedure because of its precision, which reduces the risk of complications that has been reported by traditional LASIK.
One of the many benefits are the considerable lesser occurrences for enhancements or re-treatment (less than 1%).
In the rare event of regression, or if the desired correction is not achieved by your first procedure, your consultant may recommend an enhancement. This is an easier procedure and involves lifting the flap and carrying out a further laser treatment.
The aftercare is identical to the first procedure. There is no additional charge for an enhancement procedure if performed within 12 months from the initial surgery.
At the Sharif Eye Center we have strict protocols for the care and maintenance of all equipment. All our surgeons and nurses undergo rigorous training and follow strict protocols and procedures. By adopting such stringent guidelines, we have been able to minimize risk and achieve consistently good outcomes.

Frequently asked questions
How successful is UltraLASIK (Custom IntraLASIK) ?
UltraLASIK has been proven to improve and provide better and enhanced visual outcome. While our results are extremely good, we realistically make a commitment to get you to a level of 6/12 to 6/9 or better which is the standard vision requirement for driving.
This level of vision successfully reduces your dependency on optical aids and enables you to watch television and play sports. In reality more than 90% of our patients obtain 6/6 (20/20) vision. Your consultant will discuss what can be achieved in your individual care at the time of your consultation
What About the Long-Term, Will My Vision Change?
The first LASIK procedure was performed in 1989. Further developments took place in the early 1990’s and over 8 million eyes have had treatment without any long-term negative consequences. The procedure has received approval as a safe option by the stringent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the USA. However, they advise that consumers should search for a surgeon with expertise in the cornea and research the technology well. IntraLase® has also received FDA approval.
Any changes that take place following treatment usually occur in the first six to twelve weeks. From our experience, having specialized knowledge of corneal diseases and performed LASIK for over 15 years, we believe that patients, who are appropriately selected, examined and treated by an experienced and well-trained corneal surgeon within the correct guidelines, will not experience any long-term detrimental effect.
Are There Risks in Having the Procedure?
At theSharif Eye Centerwe have strict protocols for the care and maintenance of all equipment. All our surgeons and nurses undergo rigorous training and follow strict protocols and procedures. By adopting such stringent guidelines we have been able to minimize risk and have achieved consistently good outcomes.
